Rent Burden and Depression Among Mothers: an Analysis of Primary Caregiver Outcomes

Using national longitudinal survey data from the Fragile Families & Child Wellbeing Study (FFCWS), this study builds on existing knowledge about housing insecurity, female caregivers, and well-being. The analyzed relationship between cost burdens (HCB) depression among a sample (N = 399) of predominantly (67.6%) Black non-Hispanic mothers other primary caregivers. A generalized estimating equation (GEE) model yielded results that indicate burden caregivers has statistically significant association with meeting symptoms liberal criteria for as measured by CIDI-SF instrument. This contributes to base health outcomes related providing unique analysis at an unprecedented scale using several consecutive waves responses large, multi-city, study. findings hold implications may inform future policy research concerning affordable crisis, which disproportionately affects heads household.
